🛩️What is a Drone? (UAV Definition)
A drone, also known as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), is an aircraft that can be controlled remotely without a pilot or fly autonomously. Thanks to their lightweight and portable structure, they are used in many fields such as aerial photography, reconnaissance, security applications, search and rescue, mapping, and cargo transportation.
UAV Classes (EU Classification C0–C6)
- C0: <250 g — Low-risk drones, no Remote ID required.
- C1: 250 g – 900 g — Remote ID required, allowed in A1 subcategory.
- C2: 900 g – 4 kg — Requires additional training (A2), safer distance rules apply.
- C3 – C4: 4 – 25 kg — Operated in A3 subcategory; for larger or more complex drones.
- C5: Designed for Standard Scenario STS-01 in the Specific Category (enhanced safety requirements).
- C6: Designed for Standard Scenario STS-02, enabling BVLOS operations with additional communication and safety systems.
What Are STS-01 and STS-02?
- STS-01: Operations within Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) in populated areas with defined safety limits.
- STS-02: Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations in sparsely populated areas, requiring advanced reliability and communication systems.
